Hi Vanessa, it's good you are keen to minimise environmental impact. A lot of people are made (especially made by the corporations) to think that not using a straw is going to help the fish and the environment. What about taking the next and most important step...seeing fishes and other sea creatures for the beautiful things that they are, and not killing them?

The view that animals, including sea creatures, are not here for humans to exploit is known as "veganism". The problem with humans is that their habits accumulate over many years of living and cause terrible effects. If you are fishing even once a week, you will be consuming a great amount of poor sentient beings over decades, and contributing to their suffering. The great news is that there are plenty of plant foods available that are nutritious and tasty. I wish I had access to these when I became vegan-conscious way back in 1996!! Best of luck.

Don't take more than you need. Take fish of size and don't take sporning females. Know which species are in abundance and which are in low numbers. Put back live fish if you won't eat them.
